"True to Nature" - Family self-portrait
The webmaster's grandfather and his wife Hedwig participated in the
"Back to Nature" movement of the late 19th century in Germany.
It was not so much an esthetic choice as an expediency of necessity, as the painter, George, had been a very weak and sickly child and youth,
And that way of life promised restoration of health.
It worked, and he lived til nearly 70.
Of course life isn't always a bowl of cherries, and neither is art.
Mural of the citizens of Bautzen, Saxony, entertaining the Hussites.
The mural was photographed to be used as a postcard,
as many of the artists works were.
Handwriting was that of G. Schwenk

this one is "signed" Rose Schwenk.
Sorry 'bout that Aunt Rose. You were a "fair" painter, but I've seen
some of your real own stuff. You just weren't that good.
Can any of you music lovers tell me if this is Beethoven?
