Atonement For Sin
Since many have brought into question recently the validity of Faith in the power of Yahshua to atone for sin, let us set the controversy in order. Who is right, the “many Rabbis” (in Hebrew, “Rabbonim ravviim”) of the current mainstream Judaism, or our one Rabbi (Rav Echadh), Yahshua the Natzarene*? *(from netzer, Hebrew “branch, green shoot growing from an old root”, Isaiah 11:1)
On the side of the many, there is the argument that human sacrifice is unprecedented in the Instruction from Sinai, and that a killed human, by failure to meet the specie requirements of sacrifices under the Mosaic Covenant, would defile the altar, rather than provide atonement for sin. This is the wrong question to address.
The correct question to ask: Is it reasonable to suppose that our Creator, in the early stages of the beginning, might have chosen to integrate a calculated remoteness from the process, a strategic deniability, a cautious and prudent separation from the dirty work of the earthly material creation, and the several trial and error inconsistencies that in his infinite wisdom he would have anticipated. “In the Beginning, The Word came into being, and he, the Word, came to be with The Elohim, and he, the Word, came to be Elohim.” However you choose to translate “Elohim”, whether “object of worship”, Mighty One(s), Judge, or some other, it appears from John 1:1and2 that the first act of creation, in the beginning, before time came to be, was to bring into being an “Executive Officer”, and ordain him as a junior partner in the creation. This spirit being was then empowered to bring the consequent material and spiritual realms into existence.
So what is the big deal over Yahshua being a son of Elohim, or even “The” Son of Elohim? If Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Malachi, and the psalmist all affirm that Yah (Psalm 68:4or5, Ps 82:6) is father to Israel, to the king, to the orphan, and by implication to the entire human race, why kick at Yahshua’s right to the title of "son"? He was also willing to die a horrible death following a life of selfless service as part of the plan to prove that he was not only a son of the Most High, but also the first of the many brethren. What price are his enemies willing to pay to disprove his claim?
So who needs Yahshua? As the rest of the prophets before him, he came not to call the righteous, but the wicked to repentance. If you are already there, congratulations. As for the rest of us, we are grateful to understand why the blanket offer of forgiveness was able to be extended by the prophet Ezekiel. (Ez18:21, “As for the wicked man, if he repents,…he shall not die…”). Obviously, that generosity could be extended because there was “One” who was willing and qualified to pay the price.
On this foundation, it seems totally reasonable that in the consequent fall from grace of the first man, this executive officer, by reason of his assumption of responsibility, would have by the authority he was given , also enjoyed the option of paying personally for any failure in the system, whether it was due to error on his part or not. The buck stopped with Yahshua; his father saw it, and was pleased.
And so the “seed of the woman” (begotten without benefit of “man”), would overcome the serpent, who initiated the discord. Rejoice, Yahweh’s kingdom is at hand!
