Who Must We Convert To Be Saved?
In a word, ourselves. For over 1900 years, the disciples of Yahshua tried hard, by means both foul and fair, to win their Jewish countrymen to the cause. And for an equal period of time, the favor has more or less been returned, as means and resources permitted. I think it is an apt time for some reflection on just who we are trying to convert, to what, and why. Are we on the right track ourselves, or are we merely winning converts for the pits of destruction? Are we digging holes merely to fill them in again?
I would like to propose that both communities would serve themselves and their clients better by a very simple strategy. Henceforth, those from the “Christian” community shall seek to convert Jews to the discipleship of Moses, and Jews eager to show their “Christian” neighbors the error of their ways shall proselytize them to the more accurate discipleship of Yahshua, the actual founder of their movement. Profound, eh? Feel free to applaud, or even throw money. Thanks.
But seriously, think it over. Yahshua said, “Til heaven and earth pass, not one letter will fail from the instruction of Moses”, and even Paul said, “I establish the Law”. What’s going on? How could Emperor Constantine come along 300 years later and say “party hearty guys, all that Jewish stuff is done away with now”? And let’s continue the thought. Moses said, concerning the instruction he transmitted from YHWH to Israel at Sinai, “You Must Not Add To This Word, Nor Diminish From It”. So the Rabbis come along 1500 years later, add several sets of encyclopedias to it, much of it contradictory, and then have the gall to claim, “YHWH has deferred to us, and given us the right to overrule him”. Come on guys.
If we would just be faithful to the foundational tenets of our respective faiths, we would end up, both communities, where we need to be. And the difference between the practices of the two communities would be insignificant. From my point of view, as a disciple of Yahshua, following his teachings, and disregarding the teachings of the centuries later “Church Fathers” has led me to keep all of the applicable points of Moses’ instructions. And I would like to be as bold as to suggest that any Jew who would follow the teachings of Moses, and generally disregard the teachings of the Rabbis who came 1500 years later, would learn that Yahshua is a very close fit to the promised prophet who would be “like unto Moses”. Time will tell, but it will not give us a second guess. What do we have to lose but our arrogance? What do we have to gain, but to see the kingdom of YHWH in our time? Rejoice, YHWH’s Kingdom is at hand!
