Granite countertop, fabricated and installed in a Pine Grove home by Schwenk Carpentry, jan 2007
Kitty likes having her own water dish shelf.
Nice and shiny, durable as the mountains.
Nearly invisible joints.
Since then, the homeowners decided to have a new cooktop installed, to replace the old one.
The new one is a bit larger, and required trimming the opening in the granite top. april 2008
New one shown here. Old one was just a bit smaller. For installation details, scroll down.
Old unit removed, water dam and under cabinet shielding installed. dark brown tape is scratch guard and saw guide. Wet diamond saw was used. Eliminates dust, but causes drips and some splatter.
Tools and debris from trimming granite opening larger. The plastic liner, installed inside the cabinet to catch water from the"wet" saw, is shown partially removed. It was nessessary to have a waterproof liner to catch the several gallons of water that flowed over the saw blade in operation, as it cut through the solid granite coolly, and without dust. The blue tape "dam" keeps water from flowing over the edge..
Installation finished. As you can see, there was a bit of splatter. We really should have moved the knives and pasta before beginning the cutout.
All ready for dinner! The black glass cooktop looks nice on the dark green granite.
Yes, this is real, natural granite.
