             Yahweh's Private "Turf"

There are several things that Yahweh retains within his own prerogative, and so no man dares to impose his own will therein. Vengeance, anger, and the ultimate atonement for sin fall among them. And how can we know this to be true?

As it is written, “Vengeance is mine,” says Yahweh, and so a man waits patiently for vindication from on high. And well so. Would not a man in his frailty fail to discern of the sleights against him; their exact nature? Are they real, or imagined? Justified or not? And even if they are real and unjustified, how would it be Yahweh’s will to respond? Recompense evil to the perpetrator? Or a blessing to the innocent? Or hold all in abeyance while fruits are examined? And so we forbear avenging ourselves, lest we steal from Yahweh.

And anger – is it not much the same? Best we would cease from anger, wrath, and railings. For a man’s anger worketh not the righteousness of Yahweh, so he exercises self-control; against which there is no law, and stills his soul. And what is the practical value? A man given to anger would take a course, which he would later regret. Yet if Yahweh himself becomes angry, yes, even rages against his enemies; his reservoir of wisdom, power, and might, and his wonderful patience, mercy, and kindness, can restore any damage that the innocent might suffer in the wrath of his indignation. And even his enemies, if they should repent, are redeemable. We however, have not that infinite reservoir of all goodness within ourselves, so best we leave the anger to Yahweh, who is able to control it’s outcome.

And ultimate atonement for sin? In wisdom, it is hoped, we trust in the sacrifice of Yahshua, whom his father Yahweh permitted to die, the innocent and just for all who would turn from their sins in repentance. The good, that the evil might have opportunity to turn from his ways. Yahweh, who suffered his firstling son to bear the sins of the world, accepting, it appears, in full, responsibility for the outcome of his handiwork. And on the third day, redeemed him from death; as it is written, “All the first born of your sons you shall redeem.” (Ex 34:20) Yes, it can be said, Yahweh lives by his own law, and practices what he preaches, changing not, and thus we have stability in life, and hope for the future.

A man would not have this option though. His power would only permit redemption of his son by a substitute offering, for only Yahweh has the power to redeem from death itself. As it is written, “The firstborn of man you shall surely redeem.” (Num18:15) And so we see that Yahweh has options for redemption that a man has not, so he needs to be very careful what he vows and sacrifices, for he cannot compete with Yahweh in the matter of ultimate atonement for sin either.

And so in vengeance, anger, and even sacrifice and atonement, a wise man will defer to the will of his Elohim, walking humbly in obedience to Torah. As Avraham would; commanding his children; to walk in all the ways of Yahweh; in obedience, truth, and faithfulness; for how much more pleasing this to Elohim than mere Isheh? Than mere Zevach? Truly a sacrifice well pleasing, and acceptable, wafting on high!
